EyeOS is an operating system in your browser. EyeOS is a cloud Operating System. EyeOS is open source. With EyeOS, all you need is a browser and your life is complete.
So what is EyeOS?
EyeOS is a “Web Desktop”. It’s a sort of operating system that runs completely inside your web browser, like a website, yes I mean it you can access it wherever you go.
EyeOS is a perfect example of “Cloud Computing”, where all your data is on the cloud on the internet, and all you need is an internet connection to access your data anywhere. The thing that makes EyeOS so cool is that it gives you a whole desktop to use over the internet. Not just some file storage.
Go your web browser to The EyeOS public server. You will be greeted with a login screen. Just go to new user and create account. Thats it you got your OS.
I observed lot of people send their files to their mails or store in pendrives or free file sharing providers, but EyeOs is really cool like accession a website, you can access your files any where.
EyeOs is the real time competitor for Google’s Chrome based operating system which is going to be launched soon.
Login interface look like below:

As soon as you log in, you’re greeted with a full looking desktop , complete with icons and a bunch of menus overhead. There’s a calendar and clock in the bottom right corner of the
desktop, on the taskbar. Yeah, taskbar ![]()

(I opened the About window so there’ll be something to look at besides the blue of the wallpaper
)
One of the basic things you can do is upload and manage your files. It’s very simple – just open the file manager…

… and click “Upload files”. You get a rather large 1 Gigabyte of free storage on eyeos.info, for storing documents, presentations and other light files you might want to access when you’re away from your computer.
Managing files is only the tip of the iceberg. Poke around the menus and you’re really start to see the power of EyeOS.
Well, you get the idea. EyeOS is a
web browser based
operating system that does every basic thing you’d expect your
desktop
operating system to do.
How its going to change your life??
- It’s on the cloud. That means you get it wherever you go. You don’t need to have your computer with you.
- When you’re using another computer, such as in an internet cafe, this is safer. You don’t have to download a single file to the local computer, reducing the risk of infection and allowing you to work regardless of the host operating system and it’s installed applications.
- The above point simplified: It works wherever you have a javascript enabled browser. Period.
- Simple interface. Easy to work with.
- Fast and sleek.
- Has more useful features than the most popularly known
desktop
operating system - You can install it on your own webserver!
For more details visit their website.
If you’re looking to install it on your server or you just want to see the code, visit the project page at sourceforge and have a look.
